Each line is something new - protesting an injustice or providing commentary on American life / suburbia. This isn't an album for sitting to quietly to me - it's one whose message is best understood as you shout the lyrics out to space. From "Cigarettes and Saints,' to "I Wanted So Badly To Be Brave," the mood of this album is melancholy defined, but in a way that inspires introspection and rebellion. I truly had a hard time picking which song from this album to choose because it is one that I love from start to finish. If that's not your thing and not what you're looking for from a Songs for 3 AM, I'm sorry, but I ask you to read on!Īt this point I guess I've seen them the most out of any band in my life (also because of Kimberly) from smaller shows in Pittsburgh on Halloween where they summoned the spirit of Limp Bizkit to The Sad Summer Fest Philly show where I got dangerously sunburned (but it was worth it). No Closer To Heaven is a concept album that tackles inequality, addiction, death and the "American Dream," so the analysis of this song gets relatively political. I liked them both enough at the time but sort of from afar until college because of my very good judy Kimberly and to make a long story short I've been crying to this album (slash them in general) ever since. The Wonder Years' early work was generally less serious, but a whole lot of fun - much like their contemporaries Four Year Strong.

If you aren't familiar, they're a band from the Philadelphia-area that you were basically required to like in middle school around here if you were at all into pop punk/emo or else you wouldn't pass your PSSA tests. I'm still up so it's still September 4th in my mind. No Closer To Heaven from The Wonder Years turned five this year today.
